Let's English(yes, I did turn a noun into a ???. Don't Do This!)

Today let's learn about an often used and increasingly popular phrase that I like.

Today's topic : "When the shit hits the fan."

Sounds interesting, yeah?

Meaning: When a situation goes bad or wrong. Sometimes it can also be understood as when a situation goes out of control or even when a secret is found out.

Understand: The easiest way to understand this particular phrase is to think literally. Imagine what happens when a pile of feaces/ stool/ shit is hurled upwards towards the direction of a moving fan. What happens? What else? Said object will break up into smaller chunks and will then be thrown about in a circular motion and basically everyone and everything will be covered in said object. Sucks, right?

Example : "Listen to me, they're not your friends, Chuck. They only want your money. Yeah, they're here now but do you think they'll be here when the shit hits the fan?" said Nate.

Meaning: Nate is asking Chuck if his 'friends' will still be by his side when all his money is gone/ he goes bankrupt or even when he's in trouble.

Example 2: "It's great, you know, having three girlfriends. Though I am a tad worried about what's going to happen to me when the shit hits the fan," pondered Dan.

Meaning: Nate is wondering about what will happen to him if his girlfriends find out about each other. Smart thinking, man.

That's all for today.

Bye, peeps.

    Change 'Dan' to 'Nate'.

Or better yet, change Nate(and Dan) to John Tucker.
